What is a Reborn?

A reborn doll is a manufactured vinyl doll that has been transformed through painting and rooting hair to resemble a human baby with as much realism as possible. The process of creating a reborn doll is referred to as reborning and the artists that bring the dolls to life are referred to as reborn artists.

I currently bring to life only Vinyl sculpts. These vinyl dolls are not your typical dolls that you would find in the stores, the vinyl that is used when creating reborns are softer which tends to make them more squishable resembling a more realistic feel.

Each of my babies that I bring to life is with Genesis Heat Set Paints that require special baking at a controlled temperature & environment after each layer in order for the paints to cure. My babies have stork bites, veining, mottling, lanugo and sometimes milia (milk spots) and scratches, they are sealed with special varnish to represent both the moist and dry areas over the baby.

After painting completion my babies then have their hair rooted, sometimes I use a combo (paint & mohair) but in most cases I will root. I use the very best & softest mohair available to me, rooting is done through a magnifier and the finest of needles I root a combination of both Micro (2 or more stands) and Micro Mono (1 strand) rooting for both the hair and eyelashes, I then seal the inside of the head.

Before the final step of completion, I will add a magnet to the inside of the head at the mouth area which will hold a modified pacifier.

Once hair is done we are off to the final delivery, weighting & assembling the reborn through the finest of glass beads and the softest of polyfill throughout the cloth body, legs, arms and head.

Believe me that is a question I get a lot! The main group of individuals that purchase reborns are Fine Art Doll Collectors followed by empty nesters,  people who cannot have children and for therapeutic reasons such as cuddle therapy (which is beneficial to everyone!) including those who have lost babies, those suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer's.

Reborn dolls are hyperrealistic and considered Fine Art Pieces and they are NOT meant or intended to be given to a child. They should always be carefully handled and loved. Reborns should always be treated like a real newborn.
